AI Fluency for nonprofits

What you'll learn

Estimated time: 15 minutes

By the end of this lesson you'll be able to:

  • Access blueprints and resources to continue building your AI Fluency
  • Share what you've learned with colleagues in your organization
  • Learn where to collect your certificate of completion

Next steps

(5 minutes)

This video brings together everything you've learned and challenges you to put it into practice immediately. You'll get guidance on selecting a real task from your work, applying all four competencies of the 4D Framework, and building AI Fluency through hands-on experience. The video also introduces blueprints and resources to support your continued learning.

Key takeaways

  • Start with one real task this week: Pick something waiting for you—a grant application, a donor report, program data to analyze—and use what you've learned to tackle it with AI support
  • Apply the full 4D Framework: Begin with Delegation (what needs AI support vs. human judgment?), move to Description (share context about your organization, process, and desired outcomes), use Discernment (evaluate and refine through iteration), and practice Diligence (take responsibility for the final result)
  • Remember it's a loop, not a line: You might flow from Delegation to Description, back to Discernment, and realize you want to Delegate differently. That's your AI Fluency growing through practice
  • Use blueprints to guide your first attempts: Access step-by-step guides for common nonprofit tasks to support your initial AI interactions
  • Share with your community: Use your certificate of completion to start conversations about AI Fluency in your organization

Your final assignment

Before completing this course, choose one real task from your work to tackle with AI support this week.

Step 1: Select your task

Pick something concrete that's waiting for you:

  • A grant application or report due soon
  • Donor communications you've been putting off
  • Program data that needs analysis
  • A policy or procedure that needs updating
  • Event planning or promotional content

Step 2: Apply the 4D Framework

Work through each competency:

  • Delegation: What parts benefit from AI support? What needs your human judgment?
  • Description: Share your organization's context, the task requirements, and how you want AI to approach it
  • Discernment: Evaluate what you get back, identify gaps, and refine your approach
  • Diligence: Take responsibility for the final result, verify accuracy, and be transparent where appropriate

Step 3: Reflect on your experience

After completing the task, consider:

  • What worked well? What would you do differently?
  • Which competencies felt natural? Which need more practice?
  • How will you apply this approach to future tasks?

Deepen your understanding

If you haven't already, Anthropic's AI Fluency: Framework & Foundations course provides deeper exploration of the 4D Framework and its applications.

Lesson reflection

  • What's the one task you're committing to tackle with AI support this week?
  • How has your relationship with AI changed from the beginning of this course?
  • Who in your organization or network would benefit from taking this course?

Congratulations!

Congratulations on completing AI Fluency for Nonprofits! You've built a foundation in the 4D Framework, practiced applying it to research, writing, data analysis, and workflow automation, and developed strategies for responsible organizational integration.

Remember: AI Fluency isn't a destination—it's an ongoing practice. The tools will continue to evolve, but the framework you've learned will help you adapt thoughtfully, keeping your mission and values at the center of every decision.

You'll be able to earn a certificate of completion in the next lesson after answering a few quick questions.
